out-of-the-box The famed tea franchise has been following eco-friendly ways in its 28 centres across Bangalore

To overcome the garbage issue and to lessen the burden of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) struggle in the reduction of waste in the city CHAI POINT has come forward in making its little effort in contributing its used tea-powder to a farmer at Doddaballapur.
“Daily 600-700 people come here to consume tea as it is centred in a busy hub. When Ramakanth N S (76), a retired engineer approached us, we welcomed his idea in giving used tea-powder to a farmer and started up at Mahatma Gandhi (MG) road centre”, says Amrith Singh, owner of CHAI POINT.
“There are 28 CHAI POINT centres in the city. Initially we have just started at MG road centre, gradually we will carry it in our other centres too,” he adds.
CHAI POINT at MG road daily stores 250 grams of used tea-powder in blue carry bags. The wet waste and dry waste will be segregated during the disposal. The segregated division is divided as wet waste, dry waste and plastic waste. The used tea-powder, egg shells and vegetables will be stored for manure purpose.
“As I am an environment friendly accidentally meet Manjunath V (43) in a hotel. Later I got to know he grows grape in his own land. Thought of approaching CHAI POINT centres and arranged for the process”, says Ramakanth N S solid waste management expert committee member.
“It is well organised by the CHAI POINT administration. It segregates dry waste, collects in blue carry bags, a goods auto arranged by the CHAI POINT carries the waste daily and dumps it in BBMP go-down at Shivajinagar”, he mentions.
